Campaign Description
Thembalethu was called to Pata after community members raised concern about the living conditions of an 86-year-old grandmother.
When we arrived, we found that her home is in a very poor and dangerous condition.
During heavy rain, Gogo sometimes has to leave the house and sit outside because she is afraid the structure may collapse on her. The electrical wiring inside the home is also unsafe, creating an additional risk to her safety.
At 86 years old, she should not have to live in fear every time it rains.
Thembalethu visited the home, assessed the situation and spoke with Gogo to understand what assistance would make the greatest difference.
Our goal is to mobilise support from individuals, businesses and organisations across South Africa so that we can help repair or rebuild a safe and dignified home for her.
What support is needed
Donations can assist with:
- 🏠 Building and repairing the house
- 🧱 Building materials
- 🪵 Timber and roofing materials
- ⚡ Safe electrical installation
- 🚪 Doors and windows
- 🛠️ Labour and construction costs
- 🛏️ Basic household needs where possible
Why this matters
No elderly person should have to choose between remaining inside an unsafe house or sitting outside in the rain.
Gogo has reached 86 years of age and deserves to spend her later years in a home where she can feel safe, warm and protected.
Our appeal
Thembalethu is asking South Africans, local businesses and anyone who is able to assist to help us restore dignity and safety to Gogo’s life.
Together, we can build her a home she no longer has to fear.
Donations may help cover building materials, roofing, timber, doors, windows, electrical repairs, labour and other essential construction costs.
